Farewell to the Old Red

October 23, 2021

I’ve photographed many times at the Old Red Museum in downtown Dallas. It’s a distinct Dallas landmark that used to be the Dallas courthouse, but became a museum and event space for several decades – until now. It’s turning back into a courthouse again in 2022.

I photographed Veronica and Patrick there for the very last event to be held at the Old Red. They had a wedding celebration there on October 9, 2021. Because of Covid, their originally planned wedding plans in 2020 had to be scaled back significantly. They ended up having a small and private wedding ceremony before this recent event, but this October’s event was pre-booked at the Old Red well in advance of the Old Red’s change-in-use plans. This turned into a small celebration of their wedding for friends and family, and by coincidence, it was also the very last event booking on the Old Red’s schedule.

The fourth floor where the Old Red held events is turning into offices. The building itself will now become the Texas Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

It was a joy to photograph there one last time. The interior stairs, metal work, and flooring are gorgeous, the exterior is absolutely unique in Dallas, and Veronica and Patrick were a lot of fun. We started photographing them in their wedding dress, then they wanted a few photos of themselves in Buttercup and Westley costume from The Princess Bride, and then I covered their dinner and dancing afterwards.

Here are some of the photos:
